Coming Home from Egypt: Finding Stillness After the Journey
I recently returned from an incredible 15-day journey to Egypt with Anchoring the Light (ATL) — a full-on, mind-blowing experience that took us more than 600 miles up the Nile, from Aswan to Cairo.
Our days were filled with classically guided temple tours, cultural shows, astrology teachings, and sunrise meditations on the river. Every moment was rich, sacred, and alive — we covered a lot of ground, with plenty of early mornings and late nights, and never a dull moment.
The tour culminated with our private time between the paws of the Sphinx as Ra turned dusk to dawn. It was beyond words… and I was reeling from the tour. The 15-hour, two-flight journey home was easy peasy: I slept the entire way — sitting upright. With a neck pillow. Ouch.
When the Body Speaks: My Post-Travel Headache Relief Ritual
By the time I reached home, my neck started to stiffen, head pounding — one of those full-skull, eyes-burning headaches that no amount of “sleep it off” could touch.
After a long jet-lag recovery sleep, the tension had settled deep into my neck and shoulders. Coffee in hand, I sat on the couch, reached for my Ramedica Herbal Wonder Balm and stainless steel gua sha tool, and began drawing the tension down — from the base of my skull (yes, balm in the hair!), along the sides of my neck, traps, and between my shoulder blades.
Within minutes, the cooling-then-warming sensation of the balm kicked in. Goosebumps. A wave of release. By the end of my 15-minute self-treatment, the pain was gone.
Why Ramedica Balm and Gua Sha Work So Well for Headaches
Ramedica, on its own, is a powerful, all-natural pain-relief balm. Paired with our simple gua sha for headache technique, it becomes a powerhouse.
The combination:
- Stimulates circulation
- Draws heat and tension downward
- Eases muscle constriction
- Encourages lymphatic flow and energetic release
Together, they calm the nervous system and bring balance back to body and mind — the perfect remedy after travel, stress, or long hours at your desk.
Step-by-Step Gua Sha for Headache Relief
- Apply Ramedica Pain Relief Balm to the back and sides of your neck, shoulders, and upper back.
- Angle your gua sha at roughly 80° — almost flat against the skin. Stroke downward and outward.
- Pressure: start light, build to medium.
- Focus on the occipital bone (base of the skull), traps, and between shoulder blades.
- Use the ‘corner’ of the gua sha to gently work out knots or sore spots.
- Finish with deep breaths, a couple of glasses of room-temperature water, and wrap your neck in our soft microfibre towel for added warmth.
🌿 Tip: You can even do this while sitting with your morning coffee — a simple ritual that turns tension into tranquillity.
The Science Behind the Sensation
The balm’s active ingredients — Camphor and Menthol — create alternating cool-warm relief that calms inflammation and stimulates circulation. Gua sha enhances this effect by moving stuck energy (known as chi) and improving blood flow beneath the skin’s surface.
This combination not only relieves physical pain but also helps release emotional stress stored in the upper body — one of the most common areas for tension build-up.
